Hazel Senior Boys Volleyball Team Looks Solid

Coach Catalano is Predicting a Good Season Ahead

By: Alex Squires

The Senior Boys Volleyball Team has finally been selected and is busy preparing for their league opener on October the 12th.

“The cuts were hard to make as were now carrying more guys. I want to see who is going to be stepping up to the plate,” says head coach Mr. Catalano.

As with all sports teams at Hazel, preparing for a season ahead, the players are working extremely hard. Even though they are only one week into the season they’ve begun practicing everyday. This pattern continues into the actual season where they’ll have two games per week and four to five practices that same week.

“Let’s put it this way you need a lot of commitment for this team”, Mr.Catalano says. “They’re a great bunch of guys with great potential. We would like to get a banner this season but since volleyball has improved so much in Peel, it’s going to be a lot harder to achieve that goal. The Peel Cup will get us prepped for the playoffs.”

Last year, the boy’s team reached the semi finals of the South Peel Championships and Coach Catalano hopes they can take the next step this year. However, the season won’t come as easy to these boys as they would like to think as they have teams like David Leeder making it harder for them to get that championship banner up on our school wall.
