The OC Review- April 6th-Episode

By: Samah Basith

I don't know about you, but I absolutely loved last night’s episode. It completely rocked my world, just as every other episode. But this was the best episode EVER!!!

Now where do I begin? How about Ryan and his Theresa-look-alike-Sadie? Their plan on moving to Berkeley together was, as Summer says, “Like, the sweetest thing ever!” They have been together for only a few weeks and I think Sandy really hit the nail on the head when he suggested Ryan was scared to go to college alone. However, I have an idea that with Marissa and her sudden change of heart, he won’t have to go alone. I mean, I have nothing at all against Sadie, she is from The OC, and therefore she’s automatically loveable. I just think she was becoming too fake; it’s impossible to be “issue-less”, as Seth refers to her, because then you don’t belong           in The OC. Although, I do admire the way she made Ryan happy. Did you not see last week’s episode? Ryan the-brooding-bad-boy-from-Chino Atwood was smiling! His exact words were, "I feel like I am more alive with you than with anyone else.” That is the most flattering thing he has ever said to someone besides Marissa. To watch Sadie steal his desperate heart, play around with it for a while, and then walk away from him, was pretty depressing. Just another individual added to the “People who let Ryan Down List”. Of all Newpsies in Orange County, Ryan is the last one who deserves this.

Marissa’s performance was actually commendable last night. I mean, she ditched Volchuk and his ‘heavy-metal’ friends to attend a bonfire. I’m glad she seemed genuinely unhappy with Volchuck’s comment on her college sweater party: “The *gayest* thing I’ve ever heard”. Well, I’m sorry, it’s the one event in Newport where people don’t enjoy passing out. I was also extremely pleased that she patched up her friendship with Summer; you cant NOT be friends with Summer Roberts. I think we’ve all been awaiting that apology for a while. It was long overdue.

Seth and Summer... Oh my God! As one of the most committing fans in the world, I did NOT see that coming. As is my weekly routing, luckily, I had my tissue box ready. Summer crying is rare people! I didn’t know if I should’ve ‘cherished the moment’ or bawled my eyes out. I understand Seth's motive, but I think that the more logical thing for him to do is tell everyone that he did not get in to Brown. But of course, this is The OC, and only so much can happen in one episode. I love Seth and I love that his character is developing more depth and edginess, but he can't keep up this charade much longer. Oh, that adorable collage Summer made for them…I’m tearing up. I have faith in TV’s Cutest Couple and I honestly feel a grand Fantastic 4 Reunion…soon my friends, soon.

And finally, Kirsten walking out on Sandy last night was priceless. That was the ultimate shocker. No seriously, I was screaming at the TV, "Go after her Sandy! For the love of God, go after her!" Sadly, he never did. I completely agree with Kirsten though because she has every right to act the way she did. Someone has to bring back the magnificent Sandy Cohen, his remarkable touch of sarcasm, and let those famous eyebrows relax (anyone notice the eyebrows in stress? No?) Kiersten did say she worked at the Newport Group for 15 years and she knows every single trap; she watched her father write the book and Julie read along. The poor woman is terrified of her husband turning into Caleb, and who could blame her? The last thing we need in this town is another lost Drama Chief illegally making McMansions.

Is it just me, or did this episode remind everyone of Season 2’s Episode 16: The Blaze of Glory? With the whole bonfire theme. Alex leaving Marissa connected with Sadie leaving Ryan, all because neither women fit in with the Orange County ‘life’. Also, at the end of the episode with Ryan and Seth lying in the Poolhouse: exact same positions in Season 1 Episode 14: The Countdown. Oh, I just love it when they recap such special moments!

So, do you really think it’s the end of Julie Cooper-Nichol-Roberts’ dark side? Will Marissa’s pink Berkeley sweater ever leave her drawer again? Is Kiersten’s non-existing storyline becoming existent? And will Matt ever find the right foundation to cover those hideous bruises? Is there more to Ryan and Summer’s tension-filled hug(in my opinion)? We’ll find out more next Thursday. Stay tuned.
