Raise Your Voice
Hillary Duff proves she’s up to the challenge

A review by Berkley Bradley

Hilary Duff’s newest move Raise Your Voice is sure to please the music loving part of you. Though it’s mostly for teenagers, it has wonderful music that will even make your parents feel like dancing. Raise Your Voice, released October 8th and rated PG, features Hilary Duff as the movie’s lead character, Terri Fletcher.

Hilary Duff is known for her Disney T.V show, Lizzy McGuire, and roles in movies such as Cheaper by the Dozen and Cinderella Story. She also has her own clothing line called Stuff by Hilary Duff and has just  recently released her second album. Hilary Duff has shared in various interviews that she loves her acting career as well as her singing career, and in Raise Your Voice she proves she can certainly do both. Raise Your Voice also features some up-and-coming stars such as Jason Ritter, Oliver James and Johnny K. Lewis.

Terri Fletcher (Duff) is a small town girl with big time dreams. She has set her sights on going to the prestigious Bristol-Hilman Conservatory in Los Angeles, the best summer music school in the country. Even though she has plenty of talent, her over-protective father and the loss of her beloved brother, Paul (Ritter), prevent her from attending, even though she was accepted. When her mother and aunt find out that Terri has decided not to go, they formulate a plan so that Terri does not miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Upon arriving at the school, Terri is forced into the ultra competitive world of Bristol-Hilman. Having no training like many of the other students at the school, Terri struggles to make friends and to find her voice amidst the thousands of others.

Leaving her fears behind, Terri must learn to stand in the spotlight and show the world what she is capable of.

Even if you are not a big fan of Hilary Duff, I would strongly encourage you to go see this movie because it has a good story line and has some very good music that you are sure to enjoy. With romance, tragedy and music, it is one of the best teen movies of 2004.
