Girls Win First Tournament… After only 2 Practices! After their fifth victory over Green Glade, the girls were hungry for the finals, and the trophy. Waiting for the last game to end, the girls finally found out they were going to play against Edenwood in the finals. Upon finding out the news, Mr. Catalano said “they will want it more than us”. He, like the girls knew that Edenwood were upset at having been beaten by Hazel in the round robin. The girls knew they had to play hard and had to really want it if they were going to be crowned champions. Being focused, and excited the girls couldn’t wait for the championship game. Playing hard defence and scoring touchdowns the girls played as hard as they could and they came out of the game tired, but victorious. After the game the girls received a beautiful trophy and Mr. Catalano selected Bethany Foster as the team’s Most Valuable Player. She showed throughout the day that she was a great running back, scoring a variety of touchdowns. As well, she also was an important part of a good defensive team effort. She really deserved the MVP award. Heather Paquette and Natalie Jaworski shared quarterback duties. Emily Wong and Bethany Foster played running backs. Rebecca Babcock and Laura Measor were the centres, and Sarah, Taylor St.John, Christie Park, Andrea Ades, Maria and Chloe Haldane made up the receivers. Coach, Mr. Catalano, had a lot faith in the girls and was with them all the way. The girls would also like to thank Mrs. Babcock for taking the pictures, giving us a cooler full of water and cheering us on all day. The tournament victory was only the first step to achieving their goal, a win in the South Peel championships which were held on Wednesday October 12th. Congratulations HMC girls. Is this a sign of things to come? Will the girls teams dominate Peel sports yet again? Only time will tell…but we are off to a great start.
