Mrs. Melwani-Singh Becomes a Mum

By: Ambika Gupta

Mrs. Melwani-Singh, a grade 8 English Core teacher, has been on maternity leave since the end of January 2003. On February 19th 2003, she finally received the joy of becoming a mother when she gave birth to a baby boy that she named Paveen.

Paveen came into the world at 5:12 a.m. at the Credit Valley Hospital, weighing 7 Pounds and 7 Ounces. Suresh Singh, Ms. Melwani’s husband and Paveen’s father, told us that the anticipation of having his son was nothing like the joy and happiness he experienced when he first saw his face.

Mrs. Melwani-Singh told us that during the first couple of months she’s had Paveen home, she’s been having lots of fun with him. Now, instead of just having a large tummy, she finally has someone to play with. Paveen smiles and tries to make noises, but unfortunately, he is incapable because of his continuing hiccups. Both, mother and child are doing very well. Paveen hasn’t caught any colds and so far his weight has steadily increased. They plan to come and visit our school sometime around May, when the weather warms up.

Mrs. Melwani-Singh is still undecided to when she shall return to teach, but most likely she will return in either September 2003 or February 2004.
