Year 3, At HMC

By: Laura Boyd 8K

Time is moving quickly, and graduation night approaches. It seems as if I’ve been waiting for grad night for a long time, but as it gets closer, I think about what I’ll be leaving behind. I am looking forward to grad night, but it will be a night filled with mixed emotions.  Of course it’s going to be fun to get dressed up for the occasion, and it will be great to see the proud look on my parents faces when I receive my certificate. It will give me one last chance to reunite with all my friends and peers from HMC! We’ll talk about all the great times we’ve had, and of course our embarrassing moments. Grad night will be a lot of fun, but it’s hard to believe that grad night is going to be my last time as a student at HMC! It will be one more night to be a high and mighty grade 8 student, before I head off back to the bottom of the line, in high school (HELP!!!)

As I said, I have many great memories during my time at HMC! I remember when we ‘d get stars for our good behaviour, and when we got 20 stars, we’d get a reward, like the time our class went to McDonalds! I wish it would stay that way, but in high school good behaviour will be expected, no rewards! That is why I like this school, it’s different from the others. Another great time I had was when my friends and I were in the talent show. Ok maybe it wasn’t an Oscar worthy performance, but it was a lot of fun working with my friends, and getting a chance to show off our talent. I want to thank all of my friends for making my life at HMC great!

Nothing in the world is absolutely perfect, but nothing truly awful happened to me at HMC. Like all students, I've had my share of bad days. I want to tell you about this one day, now known as my BAD LUCK DAY. On this particular day, nothing would go right for me! First, I was sitting in class, getting ready to hand my project in. I opened my book and it was gone (I still don’t know what happened there by the way!) Well after that, my day didn’t improve. When I was walking through the hall at lunch, my D&T assignment was squashed like a bug,  and I got into a fight with one of my best friends! What a day! I’ve also had my share of embarrassing moments. Like when................. you actually think I’m going to tell you?.... Yah right!

All the experiences that I’ve had at HMC have changed me as a person, and as a student! When I walked through HMC’s doors, on the first day of grade 6, I was a confused, timid, fairly short gal, but I’ve been transformed!   Many inches later, I‘ve become a better listener, and a better person. I’ve learned many new life lessons, about friendship and regrets. Don’t dwell on the past, but learn from it, and always look towards the future! I’ve become a better student, a better friend and a better person, after my 3 years at HMC. I’ve also gained a lot of confidence. Each day I learned something new about the world, and about myself!

My time at HMC was well spent, and I wouldn’t change really anything. Actually, there is on thing that I’d like to change. When I was in grade 6 I didn’t join and get involved in as much as could have. If I had known how much fun the activities are here, I would’ve joined in more! The teachers are really encouraging, so even if you’re not the best at something, you feel great for trying. It’s also a great way to have fun with your friends!

Speaking of friends, there are many people, who I’d like to thank! First of all, I want to say thank you to Pavan and Jasdeep. I’ve known you two for a long time. You’ve always been kind and supportive to me, and you never left me out. Together we went to Tawingo, joined clubs, and we even became the Media Managers together. We make a great team. Thanks!

I also want to send a special to all my friends in my class, like Tasha, Rebecca, Sadaf, Marya, Selma, Naheed, Sandeep and Tuba! Actually my class is great, and I want to say thanks to everyone in it!   All of my friends are super, and though there are to many to thank individually, I want you to know that you’re the best!

I’d like to thank the teachers at HMC as well, and Mr. Stone, HMC’S very kind principal! I’d like to say a special thank you to Mrs. Archibald, because it was inspiring to find out that even when your life was in danger, you were thinking about your class! All I can say is WOW, what a dedicated teacher, and THANKS!!! Last but certainly not least, I want to thank Miss. Scuccato. You’re somebody that I can trust, you’re a wonderful teacher, a role model, and your down-to-earth class discussions help me and many others deal with real life situations! Thank you!

I know that soon I’ll have to leave HMC, but I’ll never forget my memories. If I knew someone who was looking for a middle school, I’d certainly recommend Hazel McCallion.  I’ve had a pleasant experience here, and there’s so much to get involved in. There’s something for everyone. There are sports events, choirs, bands, clubs etc... The staff is very helpful and kind, and so are the students. You can make a lot of great friends!  They’re very understanding. I’d tell them that you learn a lot, not just facts, but life lessons. I personally think HMC is a great school. One of the reasons is because everyone is so close here, and it doesn't feel like that in any other school I’ve walked into. I know that I’ll soon have to leave this school, but I’ll never forget the years I’ve spent, and the people I’ve met at Hazel McCallion Senior Public School.
